Maria Hughes is Humana’s Chief Inclusion and Diversity Officer. She is responsible for setting the strategic direction, partnering with senior leaders throughout the organization to determine priorities, and implementing programs that position Humana as a leader in inclusion and diversity.

Maria previously served as the Vice President of Enterprise Shared Business Solutions; that included overseeing internal consulting, training, workforce management, and customer complaint operations across Humana. She played a leading role in the organization’s development of systems and processes that enable consumer experience transformation, including launching a Service Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform to over 10,000 front-line associates.

Maria also served as the Director, Enterprise Consulting Group, as well as the Director of Regulatory Implementation and Performance Management for the Medicare Division. Prior to joining Humana, Maria spent 16 years with Ford Motor Credit Corporation in Dearborn, MI, where she held a variety of Operations and Sales leadership positions.

In 2016, she was inducted into the SIU College of Business Alumni Hall of Fame. She also serves on the board of Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and the Center for Women and Families, which supports individuals, families and communities affected by intimate partner violence.

Maria earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business from Southern Illinois University, a Master of Science degree from Central Michigan University, and a Six Sigma Black Belt certification from Ford Motor Company.

Santi Darmodjo, MBA

Giselle Rodriguez Greenwood

Giselle Rodriguez Greenwood is editor-in-chief of the Houston Business Journal, where she oversees the newsroom and the strategic direction of the HBJ’s online and print news products. She first joined the HBJ in 2013 as managing editor. She is the HBJ’s first Hispanic editor-in-chief.

Giselle is the daughter of immigrants — her father is Colombian and her mother is Cuban. The family moved from New York City, where she was born, to Cypress in the late ’70s. When she started elementary in Cypress, she didn’t speak English. But her parents refused to enroll her in an English as a Second Language course, instead feeling she should be immersed in an all-English-speaking class.

She went on to graduate from Cy-Fair High School in 1993 and earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism at the University of Texas at Austin.

Giselle previously worked at the Austin Business Journal, where she started as the tech reporter and later became the assistant managing editor. Before that, she worked at Venture Wire, a New York-based publication that covers venture capital and technology. Prior to joining the HBJ, Giselle served as manager of marketing communications at Kingwood-based Insperity, a job that brought her back to Houston in 2009.

Giselle has been in journalism for 18 years. She lives in Cypress with her husband and two children.

Over 21 years of Oilfield Services (OFS) experience: in research and technology development, applications engineering, commercialization, portfolio management, operations management, Chief Engineer, managing global and regional technology centers.

Previously held senior roles at Baker Hughes as Vice President Enterprise Technology, Director, Gulf of Mexico, Trinidad operations, Sustaining and Testing for Drilling and Evaluation, first Enterprise Chief Engineer, Commercial Development Director for upstream and downstream chemicals.

She has over 20 technical publications, industry presentations and 4 US patents. Tauseef holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Rice University and a B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from University of Engineering and Technology, Lahore, Pakistan. She is a member of Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). She is on the Advisory Board of Rice U for Professional Science Masters and Energy Advisory Board Univ. of Houston. Advisory Board for University of Trinidad and Tobago 2015 – 2016. She has also served for over five years in leadership roles in two non-profit organizations, Developments in Literacy (DIL) dedicated to education of children and OPEN focused on professional mentoring and development. She is the Co-Chair for Houston Chapter of the non-profit United We Reach (UWR), committed to bringing education to underprivileged across the globe.

John also was the founder and CEO of EnFORM ; a highly successful “Big 4” style consulting firm. Rod Teamer is the Director of Diversity Programs and Business Development at Blue Cross Blue Shield Louisiana where he oversees Blue Cross’ award-winning diversity and inclusion program. The diversity and inclusion program impacts each department where there is an opportunity to diversify the employee workforce, build business partners and develop client relationships within and outside the company, including human resources, supply chain management, and corporate responsibility. Also, the D&I program under Teamer’s leadership, partners with local non–profit organizations to impact health disparities in communities across the state of Louisiana.

In Teamer's dual role as Director of Business Development, he works with the Blue Cross Marketing team to build corporate presence and sales in the New Orleans region. Teamer joined Blue Cross in August 2005 as Director, Metro Area Business Development.

Teamer has nearly 20 years of experience in resource development, marketing, project management, human resources, budget and finance, strategic planning, employee recruitment, training and career development. Before joining Blue Cross Rod was the Managing Director of INROADS/ Louisiana, Inc., Under his leadership, INROADS/ Louisiana, a nationally acclaimed non-profit career development and placement organization for minority college students, experienced double-digit growth and achieved its highest level of intern placement and conversion.

Teamer received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration, with a concentration in marketing, from Louisiana State University. He began his career in 1986 as a campaign manager for the United Way for the Greater New Orleans Area. He held roles of increasing responsibility within United Way, leading to his appointment as assistant vice president of campaign for the Capital Area United Way in Baton Rouge in 1993.

In 2016, Teamer was credentialed as a Certified Diversity Practitioner (NDCCDP) by the National Diversity Council.

Teamer is married to Dr. Toya Barnes-Teamer, Ph.D. They have two daughters and a son (Tai, Tia and Roderic Jr.) ages 24, 22 and 21 years.

Wesley C. Vestal

Wesley Vestal is currently the VP HR – Western Hemisphere for Weatherford, a global oilfield services company. He’s responsible for helping deliver the business with over 100 HR practitioners supporting multiple locations in North and South America.

Prior to joining Weatherford, Wesley spent three years at KBR as the VP Global Talent Development and nine years at Baker Hughes in a variety of HR and non-HR roles, including three years in Dubai as HR Director for a global business segment. Wesley spent eight years at the American Productivity & Quality Center (APQC), the last three in the role of Knowledge Management and Human Capital Practice Leader. He authored the books, “Communities of Practice and Associations” and “Knowledge Mapping: The Essentials for Success,” and has written over a dozen chapters and articles on Knowledge Management, Leadership Development, and Communities of Practice for KM World, KM Review, APQC, and other publications.

Maria O’Connell has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering with a concentration in thermal and fluid systems and is a Six Sigma Black Belt. She began her career in engineering at Ford Motor Company where she worked as an aerodynamic engineer, a rotation through Ford NASCAR, and assignments in climate control new product engineering.

Maria transitioned to Oil and Gas at Baker Hughes in 2007 in the Sand Control product line performing computational fluid dynamic simulation in erosion modeling and erosion reduction. She transitioned to management with the Type 1 research group than through various leadership roles in Products and Technology, Operation in North America Assembly, Maintenance, and Overhaul to her current assignment as Vice President of Quality.

Maria has five patents, two SPE publications, and three SAE publications.

Maria lives in Texas with her husband Art and has three sons; Jacob 23, Jared 20, and Brendan 19.
